Partner, Director of Residency Programs, Director of Middletown Clinic and Physical Therapist

Jennifer Flug-Atwood has been a part of the Premier family since 2009 and is a partner, physical therapist and director of sports residency at Premier Physical Therapy and Sports Performance. She completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Delaware in December of 2008 whose graduate school of physical therapy is rated number one in the nation by U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Graduate Schools.” She then continued at the university for an intense thirteen and a half months to complete an orthopaedic residency program which is credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). A residency program is designed to “advance significantly the physical therapist’s preparation as a provider of patient care services in a defined area of clinical practice.” As part of her residency, she spent time with several different orthopedic specialists in Delaware including sports medicine knee and shoulder, hand and upper extremity, operative and non-operative spine, podiatrist, orthopedic foot, pain management, joint arthroplasty and TMJ. Additional experiences included assisting in performing formal running evaluations, performing weekly screens for performing artists and club sport athletes at the university, performing ergonomic evaluations for the faculty and staff at UD, lecturing and assisting in graduate physical therapy courses and organizing and leading monthly journal clubs on topics in orthopaedic physical therapy. Jennifer continues in a role as a teaching and lab assistant with the University of Delaware and is an Affiliated Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy.

Jennifer has authored an independent study course entitled Figure Skating Monograph for the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Additionally, she has presented at multiple APTA conferences where she strives to further her knowledge and growth in physical therapy. She is an APTA certified clinical instructor and enjoys the opportunity to assist physical therapy students prepare to become practicing clinicians. She developed the sports residency program at Premier Physical Therapy which was accredited by the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education in 2014. She also serves as a member of the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education committee and helps to credential residency and fellowship programs across the country.

Prior to moving to Delaware, Jennifer lived in Fort Collins, CO and received her bachelor of science in Health and Exercise Science-Sports Medicine with a minor in coaching at Colorado State University. She was a competitive figure skater for 14 years and has coached skaters of all ages. She has passed her gold level tests, the highest in figure skating. Following her undergraduate education, she traveled internationally with Feld Entertainment’s Disney on Ice for three years.

Jennifer is a board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist and a Board Certified Sports Clinical Specialist as recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association. She is one of the few dual Board Certified Specialists in the state of Delaware.

Jen takes pride in helping people and is happy to have the opportunity to serve the Middletown community as a member of the team at Premier Physical Therapy and Sports Performance. She resides in Middletown with her family.
