Staff Physical Therapist and Coordinator of Sports Performance
Douglas Adams PT, DPT, SCS, OSCS is a staff Physical Therapist and Coordinator of Sports Performance at Premier Physical Therapy and Sports Performance in Middletown, DE. Dr. Adams received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Auburn University and graduated from the second ranked University of Delaware physical therapy program with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in December 2008. He then continued at the university for an intense thirteen and a half months to complete a sports physical therapy residency program. A residency program is designed to "advance significantly the physical therapist's preparation as a provider of patient care services in a defined area of clinical practice." During his residency Dr. Adams was a team Physical Therapist for the Division I Blue Hens football and lacrosse programs, providing on and off field care for athletes during practice and in competitions. He also provided on-field care for rugby players at the collegiate, club, and high school levels. In addition to his on-field experience he spent time with local orthopedic physicians to get extensive training in the operative and non-operative management of orthopedic injuries including knees, shoulder, elbows, hands, spine, and ankle injuries.
Additional experiences included assisting in performing formal running evaluations, performing weekly screens for performing artists and club sport athletes at the university, lecturing and assisting in graduate physical therapy courses and organizing and leading monthly journal clubs on topics in sports physical therapy.
Dr. Adams has published peer-reviewed articles that have updated the rehabilitation guidelines for post-operative ACL management (currently in review). Additionally, he has presented at multiple APTA conferences, continuing education courses, and was the keynote speaker for the Delaware American Physical Therapy Association fall 2009 meeting. Dr. Adams strives to further his knowledge and contribute to the expanding knowledge in physical therapy. He is an APTA certified clinical instructor and enjoys the opportunity to assist physical therapy students prepare to become practicing clinicians.
He enjoys designing training programs for a variety of athletes and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
Dr. Adams is a Sports Certified Specialist and enjoys the opportunity to treat a wide range of patients and athletes from various backgrounds. He takes pride in helping people and is looking forward to serving the Middletown community and being a member of the team at Premier Physical Therapy and Sports Performance.
Doug is a local Delawarean who graduated from Saint Mark's high school. He has participated in triathlons for over 10 years, ran the New York City Marathon in 2010 (3:47 finish time), and enjoys spending time with his family.
